SPECIFIC EVENTS

  • Rockford Mansion "Sleep Under the Stars": Volunteers assist children with games, crafts, and help setup. It will take place on May 7th in the Rockwood Mansion in Wilmington.   • YMCA: 
    • Youth Sports Coach - ages 3-16, practices 1hr, once a week, games on Saturdays (age 3&4, Saturdays only); Indoor Soccer, ages 3-8, plays on Saturdays- no weekly practice. Co-ed volleyball, ages 6-18, runs clinic-style on Saturday mornings.
    • Girls on the Run / STRIDE Coaches - Fun, life-changing after school programs for children in grades 3-8. Programs provide training for successful completion of a 5K with lessons that develop and build self-esteem. Head coaches must be 18, but younger junior coaches are welcome too.
    • Be a leader during a camp this summer! Activities include working with kids, games, crafts, and field trips. Contact Ms. Heather Connolly at  hconnolly@ymcagbw.org.
  • Longwood Gardens: Teens can volunteer over the eight week summer program, which involves working in the Children’s Garden. Volunteers must be able to work with children and in a team.   • New Castle County for Safety Town: 

    Fifteen hour program consisting of a miniature town with child sized houses, crosswalks, and streets.   Activities throughout the week teach children (ages 4-6) safety through songs, guest visitors and role-playing.  Teens will be expected to actively and enthusiastically participate in every activity with the children.  Teens may volunteer up to two weeks per summer.  Teens may volunteer for Spring Break and 2 weeks during the summer. 

    Volunteers for Safety Town must be between the ages of 13 and 18.  Safety Town requires a 1 week commitment from 8am to noon each week.  You will earn 20 hours of volunteer time for each week that you volunteer with this program.  Volunteers will work in a team of 2 or 3 volunteers with a group of 5 or 6 children.  You will be expected to assist the children as needed, and interact with them throughout the program.  We are looking for teen volunteers who are enthusiastic and enjoy working with young children. Volunteers will not have access to their cell phones during training or during the volunteer day at camp.

  • Kennett Run: A single event on a Saturday in May. Volunteers help with registration and handing out water and snacks during the race. All are expected to volunteer the full three hours, 6:30-9:35AM. Please contact  thekennettrun@gmail.com for more information.
  • Cinco de mayo:A single event held the Sunday before cinco de mayo. In the past, this event has been orchestrated on State Street in Kennett Square, PA for approximately six hours.
